The Kitchen

The kitchen was the area in the Airstream we were most excited to begin during the renovation! We had a lot of ideas on how to make the space super functional for full-time travel use and equally as beautiful for its potential to one day become a glamping Airbnb.

The main focus in our build was to be as minimal as possible. We’re all for keeping the clutter on the counter tops and in the cabinetry almost nonexistent, and making it super easy to hitch up and head out without moving a ton of breakable things.

Accessibility in a tiny space is key.  Limiting the amount of cabinet doors and drawers to open for all of the commonly used items like spices, plates, bowls, cups, and kitchen knives makes the space easier to maneuver in.

And, when planning out the drawers and cabinets, we tried to be as intentional as possible. We built several drawers to have built-in organization to keep things tidy and easy to find even after a long day of driving.

Kitchen Necessities & Appliances

We kept the appliances and other kitchen necessities simple and as low profile as we could.  The black features stemmed from our Dometic surface mounted cooking range.

We thought keeping all the details above the counter top black and matte black would be a great contrast to all the white and sandy colors in this space.

We’ve received so many questions about our “dishwasher” and hate to burst everyones bubble, but this is our Dometic front opening 12v refrigerator and freezer.  This is the biggest fridge we have used in an RV, and we are loving it.

It seems the handle of the fridge is what trips everyone up about whether or not this is a dishwasher.  The handle is placed in the center of the door because you can choose which side you want the fridge door to hinge from making it extremely versatile for tiny home builds!
